SPOTs / Exchanger stations Košice 2013 – European Capital of Culture One of the main priorities of Košice European Capital of Culture 2013 is SPOTs project.
Its basic idea is to spread culture from the centre
of the city to its suburbs. By doing this presentation of culture,
organization of cultural and social events, community development,
and development of local culture will be concentrated to the reconstructed
objects of exchanger stations which are located in housing estates
of four largest Košice’s city parts. They were built in the 60s
and 70s of the last century as part of the housing
estates’ infrastructure and served for distribution
of heat to blocks of flats. With the development of technologies
they have gradually become redundant and these days they are not
used anymore. Five exchanger stations will be reconstructed
within SPOTs project in the following streets: Ľudová, Brigádnická, Važecká,
Štítová and Wuppertálska. The SPOTs project brings the program
of community development that will form conditions
for self-expression and will engage citizens into cooperation with local civic associations,
municipality and artists. It supports activities that decrease
ratio of anonymity at housing estates and participate in increase
of citizen participation
and building of community solidarity. Technical solution of reconstruction
of exchanger stations is planned so that it fully corresponds
with its future use. Square ground-plan
of exchanger stations in Važecká and Wuppertálska Street will be maintained but they will be
complemented by roof terrace
with multifunction use. The dominant of each object
will be multifunction area aimed at different kinds
of cultural and social activities. All objects are designed with
regard to physically disabled people. Terrain and park adjustments of surroundings
are part of the reconstruction. In all of the exchanger stations
will all the necessary technologies be minimized and situated in restricted areas of the object. Contact
